Hours after the iPhone Duo was released, hacker team Calif said it had jailbroken the device running iOS 27.1.

Calif demonstrated animated icons and widgets moving on the phone and added an anime character to its screen. The team has not released the jailbreak itself.

Earlier iPhone 18 Pro demonstration

A week earlier, Calif published videos showing an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 18 Pro running iOS 27.0.1. The device rebooted in the footage, with root access still available afterward.

Security researcher Stefan Esser told German outlet Heise that there would be no jailbreak tool for “end users.” He said a proof of concept could nevertheless be released later.

Most vulnerabilities are being fixed

Esser said the iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak relied on bugs Calif had already disclosed or planned to disclose to Apple soon. He said most of those vulnerabilities are fixed in the upcoming iOS 27.2 update.

Artificial intelligence was used during development, but Esser did not explain how.
