Apple screenshots reveal how apps will work on the iPhone Duo

Apple has added App Store screenshots showing how its built-in apps work on the iPhone Duo in different positions. The device is scheduled to launch on October 23.
Most images show the phone unfolded in landscape orientation. Apps use iPad-like layouts with sidebar navigation, while some expand to fill the entire display.
Split panels and navigation
Contacts is divided between a list of names and an editing panel. Siri shows tiled conversations on the left and the selected full conversation on the right.
The Duo uses a vertical dock and vertical navigation bars on the right in both open and closed configurations. When the unfolded device is held vertically, the bars move to the bottom; Apple says that orientation is suited to keyboard-based apps and browsing in Safari.
Preview and Markup place tool palettes along the bottom, alongside sidebars or navigation bars. Navigation bars can be hidden, while pressing and holding an icon opens a compact popover.
Home screen and Duo positions
On the inner display, the Today view and widgets appear on the left, with app icons on the right. There is no always-visible Dynamic Island because the device lacks Face ID and places the FaceTime camera under the display, though Dynamic Island can expand from the side for Live Activities and alerts. The outer display has a small vertical Dynamic Island with the camera cutout.
The Duo can also be used at an angle in a laptop-style position, in a tent shape, partly open or like a book. Apple says apps can transition quickly between positions while keeping navigation controls in consistent locations.
The screenshots do not show two apps running side by side or multiple Safari windows, although both options are supported. Media reviews are expected two days before release.
