Apple unveils iPhone Duo: foldable iPhone with dual displays, A20 Pro and pre-orders from Oct. 16 PT (Oct. 16 13:00 UTC)

Apple unveiled iPhone Duo, a foldable iPhone with dual Super Retina XDR displays, the A20 Pro chip, and an advanced camera system.

Closed, iPhone Duo has a 5.4‑inch outer Super Retina XDR display; opened, the inner display measures 7.6 inches. Both displays share the same aspect ratio, support ProMotion and Always On, and reach up to 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness.

The device runs on the A20 Pro and ships with iOS 27.1. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are tied to iOS 27: Apple Intelligence will be available on Sept. 14, 2026, and Siri AI launches as a beta on Sept. 14, 2026 in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish coming in October (per Apple).

Camera hardware centers on a 48MP Fusion Main sensor that can capture up to 48MP with zero shutter lag and a default 24MP mode, an integrated optical‑quality 2x Telephoto, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide, and a hidden FaceTime camera beneath the inner display. The phone supports 4K120 fps Dolby Vision recording on the 48MP Fusion Main, post‑capture Cinematic effects up to 60 fps, Audio Mix enhancements and 4K Time‑lapse in Dolby Vision.

Construction uses grade 5 titanium, a mirror‑polished enclosure, a 3D‑printed hinge cover, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front with improved scratch resistance, and an IP68 rating. Apple says the hinge is engineered from more than 100 components; Touch ID is integrated into the side button and unlocking via Apple Watch is supported.

Pricing and availability: iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 (U.S.) and is offered in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations. Pre‑orders begin in over 70 countries at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, Oct. 16 (13:00 UTC); availability starts Oct. 23 in the first wave, with an additional 28 countries getting iPhone Duo on Oct. 30. The iPhone Duo Case is priced at $79 (U.S.) and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at $129 (U.S.), both available to order starting Oct. 16.

Software and developer support: iOS 27 introduces interface adaptations for the foldable form factor, split view multitasking, new Dock and side navigation, and updated APIs for developers; third‑party apps such as Netflix, Zoom and Slack are already adapting to the larger display. Apple notes that some features may not be available in all regions or languages.

Services: Apple offers three months of Apple One for eligible new and returning subscribers with an iPhone purchase beginning Sept. 17 in select regions, and reiterates AppleCare and iCloud+ options. Apple is also extending free satellite feature access for an additional year to qualifying iPhone 14–16 users who activated their device before midnight PT on Sept. 9 in supported countries.
