US military strikes three Iranian oil tankers after Navy warships were targeted
On Saturday the U.S. military said it struck three Iranian oil tankers after a U.S. aircraft carrier and a destroyer were targeted with missiles. The U.S. statement said two of the tankers were "permanently disabled" and a third unladen tanker was destroyed; strikes occurred off Kharg Island, near Jask, and in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. officials said the vessels were part of a shadow network funding Iran's Revolutionary Guard and regional proxies. Adm. Brad Cooper warned the U.S. would defend its forces and "if necessary, destroy Iran's limited and exposed oil fleet," marking another escalation in a conflict that has been active since Feb. 28.
