Apple plans to introduce its HomeView smart home hub on October 13 during the “Welcome home” event, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported. The device is reportedly scheduled to ship in mid-November, rather than immediately after the presentation.

HomeView will feature a display mounted above a speaker base in a design resembling the iMac G4. Gurman reported that it will be powered by an A18 chip.

Two designs and color options

The speaker-base model is expected in space gray, silver, starlight and pink. A wall-mountable version will use a square base and be offered only in silver or space gray.

Voice will be the primary input method, with Siri AI at the center of the experience. The device will run Apple apps but reportedly will not include its own App Store.

Gurman said users might be able to project third-party app widgets from a nearby iPhone. The report presents that capability as possible rather than confirmed.

Other smart home hardware

Alongside HomeView, Apple is preparing updates to the Apple TV and HomePod mini. The company is also working with appliance makers including LG on smart home accessories such as thermostats, door locks and doorbells.
