HomeView can support YouTube and Netflix if their apps add CarPlay
Apple says video apps that support CarPlay will work on HomeView without code changes. That could bring YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ to the device, but each developer must choose to add CarPlay support.
Apple has published new details about third-party video support on HomeView. The device will work with those services when their apps include the relevant CarPlay entitlements.
In an updated CarPlay Developer Guide, Apple says CarPlay audio and video apps will run on HomeView without app changes. Apps with CarPlay audio or CarPlay video entitlements will appear on the device.
Support depends on developers
HomeView will not include an App Store, so users cannot download third-party apps as they can on iPhone. YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ could still appear on the device if their developers add CarPlay support.
CarPlay video apps were introduced this year in iOS 27. Automakers must explicitly support CarPlay’s video feature, however, which has given developers little reason to make their apps compatible, the report says.
HomeView launches on November 13, with pre-orders available for select models starting at $289. Apple has not said which third-party video services will support the device at launch.
