Apple May Be Behind HomeView Trademark Filing Ahead of Smart Home Hub Launch
A shell company potentially linked to Apple may have filed for the HomeView trademark in the US and other countries last year. The filing came around the same time as a separate homeOS application, ahead of Apple’s expected smart home hub announcement on October 13.
A forecast as of publication. An announcement and on-sale availability require separate confirmation.
Shell company Home Services LLC may have filed for the HomeView trademark in the US and several other countries last year. Around the same time, Home Operations Suite LLC, another company potentially linked to Apple, filed for the homeOS trademark.
Apple is reportedly planning to unveil a new smart home hub during its “Welcome home” launch on Tuesday, October 13. It has not been confirmed whether the device will be called HomeView or whether its operating system will use the homeOS name.
Trademark filings do not guarantee branding
Apple has previously used shell companies to file trademarks associated with unannounced hardware and software. Before the Apple Vision Pro launched, a company later linked to Apple filed for visionOS, which became the headset’s operating system name.
Apple had also filed for xrOS but ultimately abandoned that branding in favor of visionOS. The filings therefore do not establish which names Apple will use for its upcoming home device.
Other speculative names include HomePad, reflecting expectations that the hub could combine elements of a HomePod and an iPad. Apple Home and HomePod Pro have also been suggested, but Apple has not confirmed any of these names.
