Apple has opened pre-orders for HomeView, a new product category that will begin shipping November 13. At launch, the device will have a conventional app grid alongside Siri voice interactions and customizable faces.

Most apps will be preinstalled. Apple’s website says four apps require an iPhone connection: Audiobooks, Classical Music, News and TV.

Apps linked to an iPhone

Those apps are expected to work when the iPhone and HomeView are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Early reviews will be needed to confirm how smoothly that setup works.

Third-party apps at launch

HomeView will also support third-party audio and video apps that already have CarPlay versions. Spotify is cited as an example expected to be available on day one.

The report also notes that HomeView will not have a dedicated Photos app at launch. Apple will offer Photos faces and widgets, but the source does not say that users will be able to browse their full photo library on the device.
