AT&T and Apple have begun joint efforts to address cellular problems affecting the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Thousands of users have been unable to make calls, send texts or use mobile data on AT&T’s network.

Apple released a carrier settings update, version 72.1, replacing version 72.0.2. The company has not said whether it contains a complete fix; its timing suggests a connection to iPhone 18 Pro Max connectivity, but that has not been confirmed.

Apple has also begun requiring iOS 27.0.1 during iPhone 18 Pro Max setup. Most, if not all, affected users have reportedly said the update does not solve the problem, although a leaked AT&T email said the release was intended to mitigate future effects.

AT&T is working with Apple

AT&T told MacRumors that it is “working with Apple” on the issue. Apple did not respond to the publication’s request for comment.

The cause of the failures has not been disclosed. It is also unknown whether a further release such as iOS 27.0.2 will be needed or whether the carrier settings update alone will be sufficient.

Users who do not see or dismiss the carrier update can open Settings → General → About. The current carrier settings version appears in the same section next to the carrier’s name.
