Apple to Replace iPhone 18 Pro Max Devices Losing Service on AT&T

Apple confirmed that a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max devices on AT&T are losing cellular service. iOS 27.0.1 and a carrier-settings update are intended to prevent new cases, but affected phones must be replaced.

Apple said a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max devices on AT&T are losing cellular service, leaving them unable to make calls, send messages or use mobile data.

The company released iOS 27.0.1 earlier this week and issued a carrier-settings update today. Apple strongly recommends that all iPhone 18 Pro Max owners install the software update.

Affected phones require replacement

Devices already affected cannot have service restored through a software update. Apple advises customers to contact Apple Support or AT&T, or visit an Apple Store or AT&T location; the company said the devices will be replaced.

AT&T update rollout

The carrier-settings update will download automatically for AT&T users over the next 14 days. Users can check for it manually under Settings → General → About.

Apple said it has so far observed the issue only on iPhone 18 Pro Max devices using AT&T. No other iPhone models or carriers are known to be affected, and Apple did not disclose the cause.

US versions of the iPhone 18 Pro Max use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X80 modem, while models sold elsewhere use Apple’s custom C2 modem. It is unclear whether that difference is related to the AT&T issue. Apple also has not said whether it will create a dedicated service program.
