AT&T said it is working with Apple to resolve cellular problems affecting some iPhone 18 Pro Max devices. The carrier said the issue may affect calls, mobile data, text messages and 911 calls.

AT&T said Apple has released software intended to address the problem and advised iPhone 18 Pro Max owners to install the latest available update. Affected users, however, say iOS 27.0.1 does not resolve the issue.

Users Lose Access to AT&T Network

The failure can be persistent or intermittent. Affected phones cannot connect to AT&T for calls, messages or data and typically enter SOS mode. Thousands of users have reported the problem across Apple Support Community, Reddit, MacRumors Forums and other platforms since the iPhone 18 Pro Max launched on September 18.

The underlying cause has not been confirmed, and Apple has not publicly commented.

U.S. Model Uses Qualcomm Modem

The U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max is the only newly unveiled iPhone equipped with a Qualcomm cellular modem. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo use Apple’s C2 modem worldwide, as does the iPhone 18 Pro Max outside the United States. It is unclear whether the modem is contributing to the failures.

AT&T said affected customers can seek additional support at an Apple or AT&T store. Some users have nevertheless reported that warranty replacement requests were declined.

For U.S. customers who bought or received the phone on launch day, today was the final day of Apple’s standard 14-day return period.
