US President Donald Trump said Ukraine and Russia had agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure. In a social media post, he said the arrangement took effect immediately.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian attacks continued. He reported that Shahed drones had been over Ukrainian skies during the day and that a power plant in Kharkiv was struck in the evening.

Zelenskyy initially said he had not known about the agreement and described it as news to him, Axios reported. He said Ukraine would support a truce if Russia also observed it. The Kremlin made no immediate statement addressing Trump’s announcement.

Ukraine had called for a broader truce

Earlier on Sunday, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to stop attacking Russian oil refineries if Moscow halted strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. He had previously called for a 60-day full ceasefire.

The dispute over attacks on energy sites intensified after Trump criticised Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries on Saturday. A day earlier, the United States had temporarily eased sanctions on Russian fuel that were imposed over the war in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said the sanctions relief encouraged Moscow to continue fighting. He also cited Russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia, where a strike on a residential building on Saturday killed people, including a six-year-old girl.
