US President Donald Trump claimed that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an “energy ceasefire” taking effect immediately. He did not specify which facilities were covered or how the arrangement would be enforced.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had not known about such an agreement. He nevertheless said Ukraine would accept it if Russia agreed as well.
Kyiv awaits the agreement’s terms
Zelenskyy said he had discussed the initiative with the leaders of Canada and Finland and with NATO, and was waiting for details from the United States. He said Ukraine supported de-escalation measures and steps to protect lives.
Russia had not commented on Trump’s claim. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen backed a ceasefire intended to protect energy infrastructure and global food supplies.
Strikes continued after the US announcement
Zelenskyy said that after Trump’s statement, a Russian Shahed drone struck a power plant in Kyiv, causing outages in several districts. He also reported strikes on energy facilities in the Kharkiv region.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces struck a logistics centre in Ternivka, in the Mykolaiv region, and a cargo vessel in the Black Sea. The ministry said the centre stored military and dual-use cargoes and the vessel was carrying military cargo to the port of Chornomorsk.
Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region, said a Russian strike near a grocery store killed three people and injured nine. The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk said two people were killed in an attack on the city.
