iPhone Duo assembly yields reportedly top 60% ahead of October launch
Final-assembly yields for Apple's foldable iPhone Duo have reportedly risen just above 60%, limiting early output. Pre-orders are scheduled for October 16, with availability on October 23; US pricing starts at $1,999.
Apple's foldable iPhone Duo is facing production difficulties ahead of its planned October launch, with early supply expected to be limited. The information was reported by China's Jiemian News, citing people connected to Foxconn's supply chain.
As of September 17, final-assembly yields were only slightly above 60%. One source said the line could need another six months to a year to reach a mature yield under Apple's current quality standards.
Foxconn continues line adjustments
Foxconn is repeatedly changing equipment, assembly procedures and production settings as it scales the device. Suppliers are waiting to see whether Apple will relax some quality requirements to accelerate output, Jiemian News reported.
The reported problems also involve components. Samsung Display's foldable OLED panels and hinge parts have faced low yields, delayed deliveries and design changes, leaving the assembler less time to tune its line.
Apple tested Liquid Metal for some hinge parts before reassessing the approach ahead of mass production. The company says the hinge contains more than 100 components and includes a 3D-printed cover.
Stock target trails individual Pro models
A supply-chain source put Apple's global 2026 stocking target for the iPhone Duo at approximately 6 million to 8 million units. Jiemian News compared that with typical full-cycle shipments of 20 million to 30 million units for an individual iPhone Pro or Pro Max model.
A separate retail source said Apple's sales guidance exceeds five million units. MyDrivers also reported that one contract manufacturer asked Apple to choose between prioritizing yield and increasing output: pushing the line harder could create more saleable phones while increasing defects and scrap costs.
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin October 16, with availability on October 23; US pricing starts at $1,999.
