Apple is reportedly planning to unveil a second-generation HomePod mini at its “Welcome home” event on Tuesday, October 13. The announcement is expected in an Apple Newsroom release at about 9 a.m. Eastern Time (13:00 UTC), although the source does not present the timing as officially confirmed.

The new speaker is rumored to use a newer chip enabling Siri AI support, at least when paired with a nearby iPhone. Other reported additions include improved sound, Apple’s N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7, a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip and new colors such as pink and green.

New components, largely unchanged design

Major external design changes are not expected. The current HomePod mini uses the S5 chip, which debuted in the Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019.

Apple introduced the original HomePod mini on October 13, 2020. That would put roughly six years between the two generations if the reported launch takes place.

HomePod mini’s current price

Apple raised the HomePod mini’s U.S. price in June, from $99 to $129. The source does not say whether the rumored new model will cost more or less.
