Once Human Launches on Xbox Series X|S: Free-to-Play Survival Shooter Arrives Day One on Game Pass

Once Human, a free-to-play New Weird survival shooter, has launched on Xbox Series X|S. The console release follows the game's initial launch on August 25 and includes full support for cross-play, cross-progression and Xbox Play Anywhere.

The title is available Day One on Xbox Game Pass. Subscribers receive exclusive perks: an avatar, a METAPASS Benefit Card (300 star sources, 30-day benefits and access to try 14+ outfits), discount voucher bundles and Battle Pass XP Cards; free outfits will be provided with monthly updates.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world altered by the cosmic entity “Stardust,” Once Human casts players as Meta-Humans who fight anomalous creatures called Deviants, establish territories and uncover conspiracies. Developers say the game draws on the New Weird genre, turning everyday objects into uncanny creatures such as the Devourer — a massive biomechanical worm disguised as a subway train — and the Wanderer — a bus walking on giant human arms.

The game world includes anomalous areas like the Stardust Pollution Zones, which mutate reality; the Dream Zone, affecting regions during the Endless Dream; and the Blood Moon, a dynamic global atmospheric and combat event that mutates the world and empowers monsters. Locations such as the Securement Silos feature spatial dislocations and illusory reflections.

Gameplay blends survival with catching and taming Deviations that can aid combat, traversal or base defense. Once Human currently offers over 300 hours of content, and the developers plan an Ocean Expansion in October covering islands, the ocean surface and the deep sea, featuring gazing lighthouses, ghost ships, mechanical behemoths and the ability to build an Exclusive Sea Fortress.
