Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles in several waves during the day on October 22. Explosions were reported near Brovary and in the capital’s left-bank districts.

The ballistic attack on the city ended after 1:40 p.m. Strikes were also reported in the Rivne and Zhytomyr regions.

Casualties in Zhytomyr region

Russian forces shelled the Zhytomyr community in the evening and hit a private house, regional military administration head Vitalii Bunechko said. Nine people were injured, including two children; two were taken to a regional hospital.

A residential building was damaged in the Sarny area. A woman and her two daughters sought medical care. Parts of Sarny district and some of Dubno district lost power.

Strike on Lozova market

Russian forces also struck a market in Lozova, Kharkiv region, during the day. The reported toll was two people killed and 34 injured.

Mayor Serhii Zelenskyi said the strike occurred around lunchtime, when many people were at the market. He said pavilions, homes, shopping centres, a church and vehicles were damaged, and identified the munitions as Geran and Bandерol.

Russia had attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles in several waves the previous night. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, 21 missiles were launched, some with cluster warheads; none were intercepted because of a shortage of interceptors for Patriot systems. Previous major ballistic attacks on Kyiv took place on October 13 and 19.
