Venris, creator of the Total War: Warhammer 3 mod SFO Grimhammer 3, deliberately corrupted the project to block unauthorized copies made with AI.
The move followed a wave of reuploads to the Steam Workshop. Venris said some copies were being made to work with a game update and then presented as original creations.
Creator warned of a private release
Venris said SFO Grimhammer 3 represented nearly ten years of work and that he did not permit it to be used without permission. He also warned that the mod could be made private if the situation escalated.
He stressed that SFO mods would remain free and would not be placed behind a paywall while he was responsible for them.
Working version restored
After the discussion, Venris restored a working version for game version 8.1.1 on Steam. SFO Grimhammer 3 is not currently compatible with version 9.0, although its creators are working on an update.
Venris acknowledged that the sabotage would not stop everyone who appropriates other modders’ work, but said it had drawn attention to the issue on the Steam Workshop. He supports AI as a tool for modding rather than a replacement for modders’ work.
