NVIDIA updates DLSS 5, cutting GPU load by 50%
NVIDIA has introduced an October update to DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. The model is twice as fast as the version released in early September, with availability for RTX 50, RTX Spark and GeForce NOW scheduled for October 16 (UTC time not provided).

NVIDIA has introduced an update to DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering that, according to the company, cuts graphics-processing load by 50%.
The updated model is twice as fast as the version released in early September. Its size has been reduced by 24% to approximately 118 million parameters.
Release for RTX 50 graphics cards, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce NOW is scheduled for October 16 (UTC time not provided). The model will be used by default in all games supporting DLSS 5.
Model changes and performance
NVIDIA says the update reduces video-memory use by 20% at 4K. The company attributes the gains to changes in the rendering pipeline and neural model rather than removing DLSS 5 features.
Performance is 10 times higher than in the initial March demonstration, NVIDIA says. In NBA 2K27, the update can deliver up to 1.4 times the performance of the September version, according to the company.
The March demonstration used two RTX 5090 cards. DLSS 5 became available across the RTX 50 series in September, but neural rendering still reduced game performance by 50–60% even on high-end graphics cards.
Game support and RTX Remix
Hogwarts Legacy will receive DLSS 5 on November 5, while Where Winds Meet from Everstone Studio is due to support it in late November. RTX Remix will add support on October 23 (UTC time not provided).
RTX Remix will let modders configure DLSS 5 NR through its runtime and tools, including controls for individual objects, visual effects and scene masking. NVIDIA demonstrated the integration with Fallout 4 RTX by Sparkles/Kim2091 and Mirror’s Edge RTX by SoftSoundd.
New frame-generation mode
NVIDIA has also introduced Preset C, a new DLSS frame-generation performance mode. The company claims processing can be up to 35% faster on the RTX 5060; the feature is available in the latest DLSS beta versions for RTX 40 and RTX 50 graphics cards and RTX Spark laptops.
Preset C can be enabled through DLSS Override. In this mode, the second AI model—which calculates optical flow for user interfaces and ray-traced effects—is replaced by a lighter algorithm. The mode works with standard frame generation and dynamic multi-frame generation.
