Digital Foundry has analyzed the Monster Hunter Wilds demo for Nintendo Switch 2. In Quality mode, the game holds a steady 30 FPS, with no frame-pacing problems reported.

Docked play offers Quality and Performance modes, and a frame-rate toggle lets players lock the rate or leave it uncapped. Handheld play has only one mode.

Resolution and performance modes

Docked resolution is 648p, upscaled. Digital Foundry’s analysis indicates that Performance mode lowers it to 600p and removes screen-space reflections; frame rate in that mode appears to range from about 40 to 55 FPS.

Handheld resolution is approximately 432p, upscaled. Shadows have lower resolution in this mode, and screen-space reflections are absent.

Visual differences and trade-offs

Digital Foundry found that textures are generally clearer on Nintendo Switch 2 than on Xbox Series S. The Switch 2 version also has screen-space reflections, which the Xbox Series S version lacks, and less aliasing, though the image can look more shimmery in motion.

The analysis also noted reduced or missing shadows on some characters and environmental features, less geometry on some models, and animation compromises. Foliage does not animate at certain distances from the player, while NPC and enemy animations can be substantially reduced.

Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026.
