Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA Expand Partnership for Safer Automated Driving
Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA will continue jointly developing driver-assistance and automated-driving systems. The collaboration combines MB.OS with NVIDIA Hyperion, Alpamayo Stack and Halos, including support for future SAE Level 4 applications.
Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA have expanded their strategic partnership to jointly develop the next generation of driver-assistance and automated-driving systems.
The collaboration combines Mercedes-Benz automotive engineering, safety expertise and MB.OS with NVIDIA Hyperion’s in-vehicle computing and sensor architecture.
NVIDIA’s Alpamayo Stack provides full-stack driving software with AI reasoning capabilities. It is intended to support point-to-point urban assistance, active safety and automated parking.
Hyperion and Halos safety systems
MB.OS supports new driving functions and over-the-air updates while operating with Hyperion’s in-vehicle computing and sensor architecture. NVIDIA Halos adds a parallel safety stack with redundancy and guardrails to Mercedes-Benz’s safety foundation.
The partners said the technologies will support future SAE Level 4 applications, including robolimousines.
Partnership expands beyond driving
Jörg Burzer, Mercedes-Benz board member and chief technology officer for development and procurement, called NVIDIA the company’s most important strategic partner in automated driving. Ali Kani, NVIDIA’s vice president of automotive, said the work combines NVIDIA’s computing capabilities with Mercedes-Benz engineering and safety expertise.
Mercedes-Benz also uses NVIDIA technologies for vehicle-engineering simulation and its MO360 digital production ecosystem, from virtual planning to AI-based applications. The companies are working to improve efficiency, flexibility and quality across the global production network.
