Two people were killed and at least 25 others injured when gunfire broke out at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, early Sunday. A separate shooting in Baltimore killed a 12-year-old girl and wounded three others.
More than 1,000 people were attending the Georgia gathering. Sheriff Craig Peavy said shots were fired at about 50 people in two locations roughly a block apart at around 1 a.m.; about 25 people were taken to hospitals, while the total number wounded may have reached 35.
Georgia victims and investigation
The two people killed at the scene had not been identified. Authorities had also not named suspects or established a possible motive. Deputies were monitoring the crowd when the shooting occurred.
In Baltimore, gunfire erupted Saturday near Leon Day Park, close to a youth football event. Police were searching for two suspects after finding two types of cartridge casings at the scene.
Dispute over a parking spot
Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the preliminary account involved an argument between two men, apparently over a parking spot, followed by both opening fire. The 12-year-old girl was a bystander on a nearby field and was struck after one shooter fired multiple rounds.
A 25-year-old woman and two men, aged 23 and 28, were also wounded. Police said none of the three injuries appeared life-threatening. The girl died at the scene; the woman was taken to hospital, while the two men went to a nearby hospital themselves.
US mass-shooting figures
The Gun Violence Archive reported at least 355 mass shootings in the US by the 277th day of 2026. The nonpartisan archive defines a mass shooting as an incident in which at least four people are killed or wounded.
The persistently high number of such shootings has prompted calls from some groups for stronger federal gun controls, but Congress has not passed measures of that scale.
