Lumière Summit Adopts 15 Principles for Global Governance of Film and Moving Image

Representatives of countries, international organizations, the film, television and gaming industries, creators, festivals and cultural institutions adopted the Lumière Declaration on the Future of Cinema and the Moving Image at a summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.

The document sets out 15 principles for global governance in the field and remains open to further signatures.

France and South Korea jointly presented the declaration

France and the Republic of Korea jointly presented the declaration. Their presidents co-chaired the summit.

The text says the document is intended to lay the foundation for a multilateral approach to the moving image. Its adoption was linked to the 200th anniversary of the first photograph and the 130th anniversary of the Lumière brothers’ first public screening of the Cinématographe.

The declaration describes the initiative as the beginning of global governance for the moving image. It says the framework is intended to develop through new initiatives, partners and future gatherings.
