Knightfall: low-budget gender-flipped spy thriller arrives on digital platforms

Knightfall, starring Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott as agent Ros Knight, becomes available on digital platforms 14 September.

The film is a microbudget spy thriller produced by Jonathan Sothcott that intentionally echoes classic Bond tropes but without the usual glamour. Instead of expensive cars and lavish sets it features Minis, drizzly marinas and bleak country lanes, reflecting its constrained resources.

Director Ben Fortune keeps the plot about a stolen bioweapon and its recovery coherent but not highly tense. The production allocates its limited budget toward casting: notable names include Ian Ogilvy, Geoffrey Moore (Roger Moore’s son), Michael Paré in a cameo and Nick Moran.

Ogilvy stands out as the protagonist’s estranged father, steadying scenes when the material feels thin. Michael Paré appears in a Felix Leiter–type cameo, and Geoffrey Moore plays the heroine’s worried-looking lover.

Reviewers note that action sequences seldom build real suspense: set pieces range from furtive night scenes in a garden to a final Mexican standoff in a front room. Logan Jones’s score provides brassy cues but does not overcome the film’s austerity.

Knightfall delivers a nostalgic, stripped-down take on spy cinema — a gender-flipped Bond that relies more on faces and character moments than on spectacle.
