Israeli air strikes on Kfar Roummane in southern Lebanon kill at least 12, including a medic

Israeli air strikes on the village of Kfar Roummane in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon killed at least 12 people overnight, Lebanon’s health ministry said.

The ministry reported that 11 people, including two children and four women, died when a strike destroyed a three-storey residential building near the Shuyuiya roundabout. A second strike on a vehicle killed a paramedic.

The health ministry said eight people were injured in the first strike, including three children and a paramedic from the Islamic Health Association, an emergency service linked to Hezbollah. The second strike hit a vehicle carrying paramedics from the Islamic Risala Scout Association; one of them was killed and two were wounded. The Risala Scouts are affiliated with the Amal movement.

The Israel Defense Forces said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure sites across southern Lebanon and “several terrorists” identified transferring weapons in the Kfar Roummane area, after fighters launched two explosive drones toward Israeli troops operating on the Ali al-Taher ridge. The IDF said it was removing threats to soldiers and that claims of uninvolved casualties were being reviewed. The IDF also said it hit the Nabatieh area and killed several Hezbollah fighters on Sunday following a separate drone attack.

Lebanon’s health ministry said 11 people were killed across the south on Sunday, including nine in Nabatieh al-Fawqa and two women in Arab Salim. Over the past three days, the ministry said, Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon have killed at least 27 people.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun said the escalation jeopardises the US-brokered ceasefire reached in June and urged the international community to pressure Israel to stop the attacks. Hezbollah has not commented on these specific strikes, but MP Ali Ammar said on Sunday that “the language of resistance is the only language that is effective against the Israeli enemy.” The June framework called for Hezbollah’s disarmament, gradual Israeli withdrawal and deployment of the Lebanese army; Hezbollah has rejected provisions linking withdrawal to its disarmament.
