Don't Nod warns it may run out of cash by 31 January 2027 — could cut up to 90 roles in France

Life is Strange developer Don't Nod says there is a material uncertainty over its ability to continue beyond 31 January 2027 after a sharp fall in operating revenue and higher development costs. The studio will refocus French operations onto a single production line and is considering a workforce reduction of up to 90 positions with union talks underway.

Don't Nod said there is a “material uncertainty” about its ability to continue as a going concern beyond 31 January 2027 in its latest financial update.

The developer reported a 56% year‑on‑year drop in operating revenue in the first half of 2026, equivalent to a €3.5 million fall in sales. Development costs rose by about €2.6 million due to an as‑yet‑unannounced collaboration with Netflix on a narrative game based on a major Netflix IP.

Don't Nod attributed the decline to sales and the recognition of a portion of PS+ and Game Pass revenue from Bloom and Rage, Aphelion's initial sales, and back‑catalogue income. The company said Jusant and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden sold “well below expectations” in 2024, which led to pausing two further projects, and that 2025 saw layoffs after Lost Records failed to make up the shortfall.

To reduce costs, Don't Nod plans to refocus its French operations around a single production line to pool expertise for launching new projects before finishing current productions. The board has approved a workforce adjustment in France that “may involve the reduction of up to 90 positions,” and negotiations with the union are under way.

The update also cites systemic pressures in the video‑game industry and highly selective financing as contextual factors; the company did not provide further forecasts.
