GTA 6 developer doubts a Nintendo Switch 2 version makes sense
Jérémy Hartvick, who worked on GTA 6 until 2020, doubts that a Nintendo Switch 2 port would make sense at this stage. He cited the risk of a weaker technical experience, while acknowledging that a port would not be entirely unreasonable.
Jérémy Hartvick, a former Rockstar developer, has questioned the potential value of bringing Grand Theft Auto 6 to Nintendo Switch 2. He argued that such a port would probably not be justified at this stage.
Hartvick worked on the game until 2020, when he left Rockstar. He is not involved in the company’s current decisions, so his comments do not represent Rockstar’s position.
The risk of a weaker version
Speaking with Kiwi Talkz, Hartvick said GTA fans would likely buy the console on which the game launches, even if that meant purchasing a new PS5. He therefore questioned whether a Switch 2 port would be worthwhile if hardware limitations resulted in an inferior experience.
He also said GTA 6’s audience might not overlap substantially with the Switch audience. In his view, people who want to play the new GTA could choose an available console or PC if the game eventually reaches that platform.
After Kiwi Talkz raised the high cost of technology and the broader economic environment, Hartvick softened his position and said a port would not be entirely unreasonable. However, he does not think Rockstar would make that decision right now.
Hartvick also discussed streaming the game as a possible option on Nintendo Switch 2. The source reports no confirmed port, Rockstar decision or release date for a version on the console.
