Caves of Qud is getting a separate version for Nintendo Switch 2. The game was previously released on Nintendo Switch, but no release date has been announced for the new edition.

The plans include a full physical release. Boosted resolution has also been mentioned for the Switch 2 version, while other differences from the existing release remain unspecified.

World simulation and combat

Caves of Qud is a science-fantasy roguelike adventure with turn-based exploration, combat and RPG elements. Players can customize characters with more than 70 mutations, dozens of cybernetic implants, 24 castes and kits, or choose from nine preset characters.

The game simulates creatures, NPCs, factions and physical properties of its world. Walls can be broken with tools, eaten through with corrosive gas or melted; the game features more than 70 factions, including apes, crabs, trees, robots and highly entropic beings.

Four ways to play

Classic uses permadeath, Roleplay saves progress at settlements, Wander focuses on exploration, and Daily offers one attempt with a fixed character and world seed. The soundtrack contains more than two hours of music.

Caves of Qud is a Hugo Award-winning game built around more than 15 years of worldbuilding. Players can take the role of a mutant native to Qud’s salt deserts and jungles or a True Kin descendant from one of its remaining eco-domes.
