Resident Evil Requiem was originally planned as an online game, Capcom has revealed. Producer Masachika Kawata discussed the early concept in the recently released Nikkei Entertainment special magazine marking Biohazard’s 30th anniversary.

The online direction was led by director Koshi Nakanishi. Kawata said a survey conducted midway through development produced unfavorable results, prompting the team to prioritize the horror concept again and abandon the online approach.

Leon remained part of the plan

Leon was initially chosen as the protagonist. The team later introduced Grace because, in Kawata’s explanation, a highly combat-capable character alone would not provide the intended emphasis on horror.

Resident Evil Requiem is available on Nintendo Switch 2. A story expansion is also planned for release in the future.
