Apple introduced AirPods 5, wireless earbuds that bring Active Noise Cancellation to the entry-level model. Pricing starts at $129.
Apple says AirPods 5 remove up to 50% more external noise than AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. A redesigned acoustic architecture and updated Adaptive EQ are intended to deliver richer, more detailed sound.
AirPods 5 features
Both models include Adaptive Audio, which automatically combines noise cancellation and Transparency mode. Conversation Awareness lowers playback volume when the wearer begins speaking, while Live Translation works with a compatible iPhone that has Apple Intelligence enabled.
Apple also says the updated Transparency mode makes nearby voices and sounds feel more natural.
Wireless charging version
The $149 model comes with a Wireless Charging Case, adds swipe-based volume controls on the stems and offers longer battery life. Apple says it provides up to five hours of listening with noise cancellation enabled, or up to 22 hours with the case.
The case supports USB-C, Apple Watch and Qi chargers.
AirPods 5 are available to preorder now, with availability beginning Friday, September 18.
