YouTube removes the Subscriptions tab from Android and iOS bottom bars
YouTube is moving Subscriptions from the bottom bar of its mobile apps to the Home tab’s top bar. The change ends nearly a decade of bottom-bar placement, which began in 2017.
YouTube is removing Subscriptions from the fourth position in the bottom bar of its Android and iOS apps and moving it to the top bar of the Home tab.
In the redesigned interface, Subscriptions appears second after Home and is marked with a red underline. YouTube began testing the layout earlier this year.
New feeds after Subscriptions
The new top bar also includes dedicated feeds for Live, Music, and Movies & TV. Movies & TV appears only for users with active subscriptions, including Primetime Channels. The redesign also removes YouTube’s navigation drawer.
The move changes a placement that had kept Subscriptions in the bottom bar for nearly a decade, since 2017.
YouTube custom feeds
The navigation update coincides with custom feeds, which are available on mobile and the web and sync between them. Users can describe a topic, set of channels, or viewing style in their own words, and YouTube will create a feed tailored to that request.
Custom feeds appear as top tabs after Home and Subscriptions. Free users can save up to three active custom feeds, while YouTube Premium members can save up to eight.
The feature is initially rolling out in English to signed-in viewers in the United States on mobile and desktop. YouTube says it will expand to more countries.
