Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence has published an interactive 3D model and component data for Russia’s new Filin cruise missile. The agency says Russian forces began using the weapon in late summer 2026.
The missile was developed by NPO Molniya, part of the Tactical Missiles Corporation. Its composite fuselage is 3.5 metres long, its wingspan is 3 metres, and Russia claims a maximum speed of 800 km/h.
Range, altitude and warhead options
Filin is launched from a ground-based platform using a solid-propellant booster. It can fly at extremely low altitudes or reach 6,000 metres, while its claimed range is up to 1,200 km. Versions with 50 kg and 100 kg warheads are available.
Onboard equipment and guidance
DIU established that the onboard equipment is manufactured by Plaz LLC, which also participates in producing Garpiya drones. The agency said Filin and Garpiya components have similar layouts and markings.
The missile uses a Chinese-made inertial navigation system and a 16-channel Kometa system for targeting. Some components are manufactured using 3D-printing technology.
Electronic components and engine
The missile’s electronic components are similar to those used in other Russian missiles and drones. DIU said Filin includes 22 Chinese and 35 American components, alongside standardised solutions used across different units and circuit boards.
The agency said the missile’s engine is Russian-made. It is the R500, manufactured by Reynolds LLC, which was previously identified in the S-71K Kover and S-71M Monokhrom cruise missiles.
