The second tvOS 27.2 beta adds support for using four HomePods as wireless speakers with Apple TV 4K. The feature is present in testing software but is not complete.

Through the Home app, users can pair two HomePod stereo sets—two full-size HomePods and two HomePod minis. However, all four speakers currently play the same audio because front and rear roles cannot yet be assigned.

Atmos support and current limits

The feature works with Atmos and surround-sound video. Menu and game audio currently plays only through the front speakers.

FlatpanelsHD reported the feature after examining tvOS 27.2 beta 2. Earlier, references to an upcoming surround-sound feature had been found in HomePod 27 beta 8.

After publication, leaker pdfu said on X that the related feature is already present in tvOS 27.0 and is not yet true surround sound. Additional indications of the capability nevertheless remain in the tvOS 27.2 code.

The source says Apple is preparing a major expansion of its home-product lineup. A new HomePod, Apple TV 4K and a HomePad device are expected in October, but the report provides no official confirmation of those launches.
