Donald Trump accused fellow Republicans of undermining Ken Paxton’s campaign in the Texas Senate election.

In a Truth Social post, Trump attacked incumbent senator John Cornyn and political strategist Karl Rove. He said they were working against Paxton because of personal jealousy and accused them of hurting Texas and the United States.

Democrat holds slight polling lead

Although many Republicans regard Texas as a safe seat, polls show Democratic nominee James Talarico with a slight lead over Paxton. Paxton has served as Texas attorney general since 2015.

A Paxton defeat would be a major setback for Trump and the Republican Party. It would also mark the first Democratic Senate victory in Texas since 1988.

Other White House developments

New White House press secretary Katie Zacharia said it was unknown how extensively she would engage with the press or hold briefings. Questions about her legal credentials followed reports that she failed the California bar exam after graduating from law school.

Trump also called a series of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries a “disgrace” and said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was more difficult to deal with than Vladimir Putin.
