A20 Pro iPad mini feature request: split screen with picture-in-picture
The author wants Apple to add split screen with picture-in-picture to the upcoming iPad mini. A recent leak says the tablet could feature an A20 Pro chip and thinner bezels, while OLED and water resistance are also expected.
The author’s main request for the next iPad mini is split screen with picture-in-picture. The proposed layout would let users watch video while using another app in portrait orientation.
A leak published by Aaron Perris last week says the tablet could feature an A20 Pro chip and thinner bezels. The article also says OLED and water resistance are expected.
iPad mini software limitations
The author argues that the current software is not sufficiently tailored to the iPad mini’s form factor. The complaints include very small widgets, a limited number of icon rows and large unused areas on the Home Screen.
The article says overlapping windows do not feel suitable for the tablet’s small display. A layout placing video beside an app is presented as a better fit for the device.
Proposed portrait-mode layout
According to the article, the iPad mini currently cannot make a picture-in-picture window span the device’s full width in portrait orientation. Users would instead have to cover part of the app or adjust window sizes manually.
The request follows the author’s positive experience with multitasking on the iPhone Duo. The article also notes that the iPhone Duo and iPad mini have similar aspect ratios, but it does not report confirmation that Apple plans to introduce the feature.
