A Russian drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region continued during the day on October 20. Three people were killed and four others injured when a drone fell on the Kyiv–Odesa highway between the capital and the region, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said.
The drone fell near a shopping centre and cars caught fire. The final number of casualties was still being clarified, while traffic on the road was restricted.
Medical facilities damaged
In Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, drone debris hit the upper floor of a medical facility, partly damaging its roof and building. Debris also struck upper floors of another facility in the Holosiivskyi district; the number of people injured in the hospital strikes rose to three.
The attack also hit an operating room at the Strazhesko Institute. Government head Serhii Koretskyi said one patient was injured and there were no deaths.
Ukraine’s Health Ministry and the Cancer Institute said the institute itself suffered no significant damage and remained operational. Buildings nearby were damaged.
Kyiv power and transport disruptions
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said an energy facility in the Shevchenkivskyi district was hit. DTEK reported power cuts in several Kyiv districts, while electric transport was partly suspended.
The Kyiv City Military Administration denied reports that the Northern Bridge had been hit. Traffic there could be disrupted because police were documenting the attack’s consequences nearby; public transport schedules could also change.
Drone debris fell onto railway tracks in the Solomianskyi district, but no fire was reported. Ukraine’s Air Force said jet-powered drones were near Kyiv.
Strikes in other cities
Two people were killed in the outskirts of Dnipro. Three municipal workers preparing Kramatorsk for the heating season were also killed.
The previous day, Kyiv and its suburbs were attacked several times with ballistic missiles and jet-powered Shahed drones. A 21-year-old woman was killed in the capital and eight people were injured; the above-ground Chernihivska metro station, its tracks and cable network were also damaged.
