The expanded version of Avengers: Endgame contains one new scene after the film and three more during and after the credits. Together, they establish several possible links to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday without confirming its full plot.
The rerelease, Avengers Endgame: Encore, had earned $126 million worldwide by last weekend, lifting the film’s lifetime total to approximately $2.925 billion, just above Avatar’s $2.923 billion.
Loki reaches Steve Rogers
In the new closing scene, Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, and Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, are visited by Loki. Tom Hiddleston’s character offers help after season two of Loki left him holding the multiverse’s branching timelines together.
The scene suggests that a threat to reality could interrupt Rogers’ retirement, but it does not explain why he would return.
Doctor Doom targets Bruce Banner
One mid-credits scene shows Bruce Banner in an underground facility after the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, trying to control the Hulk. The voice of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom announces that he has come to “collect” the scientist.
The footage does not say whether Doom wants Banner’s intelligence, the Hulk’s strength or something else.
Colliding universes and Doom’s mask
Another scene shows the Time Variance Authority’s Mobius, OB and Casey watching thousands of universes collide and disappear. The threatened realities include the X-Men universe from 20th Century Fox’s films.
The post-credits sequence reworks Tony Stark’s farewell by showing his first Iron Man armour being built in an Afghan cave before ending on Doctor Doom’s mask. It connects Stark’s legacy with the coming villain but does not confirm that Doom is a Stark variant.
