Sensor Tower: Meta’s Muse reaches 10 million US downloads in 40 days

Meta’s Muse became the 12th app to reach 10 million US downloads within its first 40 days, Sensor Tower says. The firm also reported stronger seven- and 14-day retention than ChatGPT, Claude and Grok, despite a suspended sharing feature linked to privacy concerns.

Meta’s Muse app reached 10 million downloads in the US within its first 40 days, analytics firm Sensor Tower reported. That makes it only the 12th app to hit the milestone since the company began tracking the market in October 2015.

Muse had previously passed 5 million US downloads and spent 12 consecutive days at the top of the US App Store’s free-app chart. It has since fallen to second place.

Muse leads rivals in retention

During their first 40 days, ChatGPT recorded 3.7 million US downloads, Grok 500,000 and Claude 200,000, Sensor Tower said. ChatGPT reached about 15 million downloads globally over the same period, with the US, Japan, Brazil and Germany as its largest markets.

Sensor Tower measured Muse’s seven-day retention at 30% and its 14-day retention at 23%. ChatGPT, Claude and Grok averaged 19% after seven days and 16% after 14 days.

Privacy concerns suspend sharing feature

The report came amid renewed privacy concerns about Muse. Security researchers said shared conversations could expose sensitive personal and business information, prompting Meta to suspend the sharing feature while it investigates.

Meta raises advertising support

Muse accounted for 39% of Meta’s US advertising spending so far this month, up from 23% in September. Sensor Tower also said the app rose from 73rd to 21st among US brands ranked by advertising impressions.

Sensor Tower said nine of the other apps to reach 10 million US downloads within 40 days were mobile games, without naming all of them. The most recent previous example was Meta’s Threads, which reached the milestone in July 2023.
