Samsung launches SmartThings Now with personalized prompts and local device control
Samsung has updated SmartThings with SmartThings Now at the top of the Home tab and expanded local device control. The platform serves 470 million registered users and supports more than 430 certified brands.
Samsung Electronics has introduced an update to SmartThings featuring SmartThings Now, a redesigned Home tab and expanded local control for connected devices.
SmartThings Now displays personalized information and actions that may be relevant to a user’s situation. Local control is also designed to keep connected devices responsive during network disruptions.
Context-based prompts
The feature can alert a caregiver when a Family Care member, such as an older parent, has shown no device activity for an extended period. The card offers options to check in or call.
When a user approaches a home location registered in the SmartThings app, SmartThings Now can suggest turning on lights and air purifiers in advance. After the action is taken, it prompts the user to create a routine to automate it.
Recommendations from weekly activity
SmartThings Now analyzes activity from the previous week and suggests changes to Home tab Favorites, including devices, services and routines. For example, it may recommend removing an air conditioner card as seasonal use declines or adding an AirDresser card when usage increases.
The Routine Insight card lets users review detailed routine activity from the past week and delete routines they no longer need. Samsung says SmartThings has 470 million registered users and supports more than 430 Works with SmartThings-certified brands.
