Apple is developing a new Vision Pro device under the codename N224 while considering several form factors. Bloomberg reports that the project is still at an early stage.

The device could arrive in late 2028 or early 2029. It is not necessarily intended as a lower-cost model; Apple could position it as a successor to the current M5-based Vision Pro.

Four concepts under consideration

According to Bloomberg, Apple is currently working on four concepts. One would move the computing hardware and battery into an external puck, similar to the VR glasses recently unveiled by Meta.

Some Apple executives reportedly prefer a design closer to an all-in-one headset. The current Vision Pro already uses an external battery, but moving the computing hardware outside the headset would require more efficient thermal management and processing.

Apple tests alternative materials

One prototype retains the Vision Pro’s egg-shaped design while exploring ways to reduce its weight. Materials being tested reportedly include plastic, titanium, other metals and additional options.

Apple is also continuing to examine a standalone puck combining the battery and computing components. The final design and specifications of the new Vision Pro remain undecided.
