OpenAI announced Dots, always-on agents designed to compete with Meta’s Muse agent.
Dots run on the GPT–6 Astra model and have a cloud computer with a web browser. They can connect to more than 4,000 apps, learn from user feedback and, OpenAI says, work on users’ goals around the clock.
Communication channels and permissions
Users can interact with Dots through ChatGPT, Slack and Teams. OpenAI plans to add texting, while the agents can retain context across channels and conduct background research on projects.
Dots follow ChatGPT’s permissions and support custom rules specifying which tasks require approval. Users can create and name one “primary dot”; teams of Dots are planned for a later release.
Access and usage limits
The rollout covers Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise plans in select markets. Other users are expected to receive access later.
Eligible users receive one Dot at no extra cost. Agent conversations do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits, but tasks use plan allowances. Dots can be configured in the ChatGPT desktop app and then accessed through the mobile app.
OpenAI also introduced GPT–6.1 Sol, which it described as a major upgrade to GPT–6 Sol with improvements in agentic coding, computer use and professional work.
