NVIDIA has announced a five-year program to support agentic AI safety and security research in the UK, providing computing resources valued at $250 million.

The commitment will deliver $50 million in compute access each year. Most of the resources are intended for the wider UK AI safety and security research community, with a portion supporting BOLD, SOFAIR and Imperial College London.

Research spans AI and robotics

BOLD, led by the University of Oxford, is developing approaches to help AI systems learn, adapt and operate alongside people. SOFAIR, led by UCL, is exploring open AI architectures and ways to make developing and deploying AI more accessible.

Imperial College London’s work will include safety engineering and robotics. More broadly, the program will focus on secure agents, open-model security and real-world threat mitigation.

Compute infrastructure hosted in the UK

NVIDIA will fund access through its UK-based cloud partners, with infrastructure hosted in the country. Provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms have yet to be agreed.

The research programs are expected to include secure sandboxes, reproducible research and safety assessment benchmarks. NVIDIA said researchers may use its OpenShell software and Sentry reference design.

The initiative builds on NVIDIA’s work with the UK research community, including support for the University of Bristol’s Isambard-AI supercomputer, powered by NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchips.
