NVIDIA will commit $1 billion over the next five years to expand U.S. scientific research and technology capabilities. The company said the effort will focus on super intelligence computing, quantum technologies, healthcare and energy security.

The announcement came at the Science: A New Golden Age event in Washington, where U.S. officials, industry leaders and members of the scientific community discussed public-private cooperation in research.

Funding for research infrastructure

NVIDIA plans to support research institutions at U.S. higher-education establishments, accelerate American quantum leadership and assist cloud service providers supporting U.S. government mission needs.

The company also invited members of the science community to collaborate on research using computing and super intelligence infrastructure to accelerate scientific discovery.

Participation in the Genesis Mission

The U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy highlighted the expansion of the Genesis Mission, in which NVIDIA is a leading industry partner. NVIDIA is collaborating on several phase-two projects announced at the event, including work in quantum computing, fusion, accelerator design and microelectronics.

NVIDIA has worked with U.S. national laboratories for more than two decades. Last year, it announced a partnership with the Department of Energy under the Genesis Mission to build the department’s largest scientific-research supercomputer at Argonne National Laboratory and support seven new systems across Argonne and Los Alamos national laboratories.
