New Apple TV 4K adds A19 chip, hands-free Siri and 128GB storage

Apple launched the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. The device replaces the third-generation model introduced in 2022 and uses the A19 chip, which debuted in the iPhone 17.

Apple says the A19 delivers up to 50% faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance. It also includes a dedicated AV1 decoder for high-quality streaming with lower bandwidth use.

The new device comes with 128GB of storage as standard. Apple previously sold 64GB and 128GB versions, with 64GB used in the base model.

Siri works without pressing the remote

The box includes a three-microphone array with voice isolation. Users can address Siri without pressing the remote button, while Siri AI is also planned for second- and third-generation models.

Apple says Siri AI can understand personal context, answer broad general-knowledge questions and perform more actions across system apps.

Precision Finding comes to Siri Remote

The updated Siri Remote supports Precision Finding and has a built-in speaker. Users can receive step-by-step directions to the remote and play a sound to locate it.

A standalone Siri Remote costs $59 and works with older Apple TV 4K models.

Four-HomePod surround sound

The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K supports a four-speaker setup using HomePod mini 2 or HomePod 2. The speakers can be mixed in matching pairs, such as two HomePod 2 units at the front and two HomePod mini 2 units at the rear.

The system identifies the speakers’ positions and automatically calibrates audio timing and levels. Other connectivity changes include Gigabit Ethernet as standard across all models; it was previously unavailable on the base 64GB version.
