Apple support document hints at a new fourth-generation Apple TV 4K

Apple updated an Apple Music lossless-audio support document to mention the Apple TV 4K third generation or later. The wording may point to a new model, but it could also be future-proofing or an error.

An updated Apple support document has added to speculation that the company is preparing a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. A note under the Apple TV 4K section now says that Hi-Res Lossless is available on the third generation or later.

The third-generation Apple TV 4K is the current model, making the reference to later versions potentially significant. Apple may also have future-proofed the document or introduced the wording by mistake.

Rumored features of the next model

The next Apple TV is rumored to use an A19 or A19 Pro chip, offer 8GB to 12GB of RAM, and support Apple Intelligence and AI features in Siri. Reports also point to an Apple-designed N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7 support and a revised Siri Remote.

An image of the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K obtained by MacRumors last week showed no design changes compared with the current model. The device is expected to be announced in October, although Apple has not confirmed that timing.

Current model and price

The current Apple TV 4K was announced in October 2022 and has an A15 Bionic chip with 4GB of RAM.

Apple raised the device’s price in June amid rising memory-chip costs. In the United States, the entry-level model now starts at $199, up from $129.
