The new Apple TV 4K will support Whole Room Audio, which distributes sound evenly across four HomePod speakers in a room. Apple says music and sports commentary should remain clear regardless of where listeners are seated.

In tvOS 27.2, “Surround Sound” and “Whole Room Audio” will appear as separate audio options when four HomePods are connected. User pdfu, who has been examining Apple’s software code, identified the distinction.

HomePod configurations supported

The new Apple TV 4K can connect to four HomePod mini 2 speakers or combine two pairs of different models. The front pair and rear pair must match—for example, two full-sized HomePod 2 speakers in front and two HomePod mini 2 speakers behind.

In the separate surround-sound setup, speakers occupy front-left, front-right, rear-left and rear-right positions. Previous Apple TV 4K models remain limited to two HomePods for stereo sound.

The new Apple TV 4K launches on Friday, November 13, while HomePod mini 2 launches on Friday, October 30. Both devices are available for pre-order.
