Minecraft defeated itself after 1.975 billion years

A Minecraft simulation showed how the game can defeat the Ender Dragon without player input under an exceptionally rare set of conditions. In seed -535646876083114041, the final hit landed after 1.975 billion years.

Minecraft can complete itself: a simulation showed mobs defeating the Ender Dragon without player input. In seed -535646876083114041, that happened after 1.975 billion years of in-game time.

Minecraft YouTuber RedLogic built the simulation by searching for a seed with a specific combination of conditions: a completed End Portal close enough to the surface for mobs to reach, along with a very large supply of pumpkins.

Mobs opened the route to the End

RedLogic used a Monte Carlo simulation to compress billions of ordinary game ticks into statistically sampled waiting times. In the selected world, an Enderman picked up a pumpkin in year 33,477, and a snow golem was created from it two years later.

In year 35,510, the golem provoked a creeper, whose explosion opened part of the route to the portal. Two years later, another golem and two creepers cleared the path completely, allowing surface mobs to enter the End.

End Crystals and the final attack

Endermen began entering the End in year 1.3 million and gradually built block paths toward the crystals around the dragon’s lair. The first snow golem destroyed a crystal in year three million; eight of the ten crystals were gone by year 122,415,210, and the last was destroyed in year 199 million.

The first creeper explosion hit the dragon in year 227 million and dealt four points of damage. After roughly a billion years of snow golem attacks and creeper explosions, the final hit killed the Ender Dragon in year 1.975 billion.

RedLogic’s final view showed blocks stacked throughout the world, terrain scarred by explosions and no living creatures remaining. The simulation nevertheless ended with the game completed without direct player action.
