Microsoft has officially released Windows 11 26H2, with the rollout beginning September 29. The update is intended for devices running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2.
26H2 is delivered through Windows Update only as enablement package KB5121794, rather than through the monthly Patch Tuesday process. Installation requires version 24H2 or 25H2 with KB5124010 from September 22 or a newer update.
Shared core and system files
Versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2 use the same kernel and system files. Microsoft says most components required for 26H2 were added through regular updates during the past year.
The release includes accumulated improvements, security optimization and other Windows changes. These include an updated file manager with AI-based tools for working with images.
Search and file handling
Windows Search now offers result previews, improved handling of misspelled and incomplete application names, clearer results and automatic indexing for frequently used folders.
OneDrive and SharePoint support the creation of short analytical documents. The update also adds performance improvements for work and school accounts and support for additional archive formats.
Accessibility and interface settings
The release adds more precise display scaling and tuning controls. The voice assistant can view Braille, while Copilot+ PCs receive broader voice-control capabilities.
The information manager can show NPU and memory usage. The Start menu and taskbar gain new settings, including menu resizing, more taskbar positions and a reduced taskbar mode.
