Microsoft has released a fix for an Excel data-paste failure caused by the KB5002914 security update. Issued on September 8, 2026, the update made the Paste command fail silently without changing the selected source or destination.
Microsoft confirmed that the problem affected Excel 2024, 2021, 2019 and 2016, as well as Excel Online on Office Online Server. The reported cause was a conflict with conditional formatting that blocked standard Ctrl+V pasting.
Two versions receive full fixes
An official solution is now available for Office LTSC 2021 and Office LTSC 2024. Office LTSC 2019 and the classic Excel 2016 currently have only partial mitigation, while a complete patch remains in development.
Until then, Microsoft recommends using Paste Special from the Home tab instead of the standard Paste command. The source says this workaround removes the reported symptom.
