Meta unveils Muse Charm AI companion and new smart glasses

Meta unveiled Muse Charm, a small device with a Tamagotchi-like avatar that lets users talk with the company’s Muse AI. Mark Zuckerberg presented it during Meta’s annual Connect event on Wednesday.

The device is roughly the size of an Apple Watch and starts a conversation through a fingerprint sensor, without requiring a phone to be unlocked or an app to be opened. Meta is targeting the holiday season for its launch but provided no further details.

Meta VR Glasses launch in spring for $1,300

The main Connect announcement was Meta VR Glasses. The headset weighs 100 grams, includes full-color passthrough video and a 5K display, and uses a tethered module for storage and battery power.

Meta says the glasses support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos spatial audio, along with up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback. They run games available for Quest headsets and support Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The glasses can also connect to a PC or Mac, allowing users to control them with a virtual keyboard and trackpad. Launch is planned for spring, with a $1,300 starting price.

Audio and camera-equipped Ray-Ban updates

Meta introduced an audio-only version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses. The model supports media playback and calls, lasts up to 12 hours per charge, and gets up to 48 additional hours from its charging case. Pre-orders are open, with shipping set for October 13 from $349.

The camera-equipped Ray-Ban Meta glasses received a slimmer design, a button for activating Meta AI and a nine-hour battery rated against eight hours for the previous generation. Meta says a new six-microphone array removes more than 90% of background noise, while the 12-megapixel camera records 3K video.

The glasses will also gain Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio support, with third-generation pricing starting at $449. Later this year, Meta plans to add an FDA-cleared hearing enhancement feature to its AI glasses, available through a Meta One subscription or a $149 one-time payment, with a 30-day free trial.
